Italy coach Nick Mallett has said that he believes the gap between Northern and Southern Hemisphere rugby is wider than ever after a disappointing November series for the European nations.

France and Ireland beat this year's Tri Nations champions South Africa and Scotland beat Australia.

Former South African coach Mallett is one of a few coaches who have coached TriNations and SixNations teams highlighted the the fact that France are the only Northern Hemisphere team to have won on southern soil in six years.

"I think the gap between the Northern and Southern Hemisphere remains pretty wide." he said.

"The day Northern Hemisphere teams stop going down South and losing every Test by at least 20-30 points and start winning on their own soil, is the day I will revise my opinion." he said on the Official Six Nations site.

"If you look at the Tri Nations, the physicality is on a level that is way above the Northern Hemisphere."
