The Waratahs have suffered a blow for the Super Rugby season as winger Lachie Turner will most likely miss the whole season due to injury.

Turner has torn his hamstring off the bone and will have surgery on Wednesday to reattach the tendon.

The early medical report is that he will be out of action for six months.

In a best case scenario Turner would only be able to return for the Waratahs if they make it to the finals which are in August.

The injury means that he will miss the June Internationals and this will decrease his chances of playing in the expanded Four Nations which is now called the Rugby Championship.

The Waratahs have released a statement confirming that the injury occured whilst Turner was playing on Friday for the Waratahs against Samoa in Tamworth, "Lachie Turner sustained a hamstring injury in Friday evening's match. "

"MRI scans on Saturday revealed extensive tendon damage and as a result, he will undergo surgery this Wednesday to repair or reattach the tendon, depending on the extent of the damage."

"It is anticipated that he will be out of action for at least six months. A further update will be made after surgery."

The Waratahs have also revealed that Dan Vickerman's shoulder is expected to keep him out until April while Sitaleki Timani will only return from Japan in March.

Drew Mitchell's ankle and Atiele Pakalani''s shoulder are both recovering well and they are expected to be fit to face the Reds in first match of the new season.

Rocky Elsom's hamstring is expected to keep him out of rugby until early March but Wycliff Palu (hamstring) and Benn Robinson (knee) will be available for selection for this weekend's trial match.
