Stormers head coach Allister Coetzee has confirmed that eighthman Nizaam Carr will miss the rest of the Super Rugby season due to injury.

The former Bishops star injured his knee at a first-half ruck against the Cheetahs on Saturday at Newlands and had to be assisted off the field.

Scans done on Sunday showed that Carr had torn the anterior cruciate ligaments in his right knee.

Carr was replaced by substitute Jebb Sinclair, the Canadian and London Irish player, who joined the Stormers last week.

Coetzee said it is likely that Sinclair will be promoted to the run-on XV next week against the Waratahs.

"As you could see Sinclair does play towards the ball as a No 8 which is a good sign, he is also a good ball-carrier so I think he will be the No 8 next week because we have got none," said Coetzee.

"It is short notice (to look abroad) so I think that we have to look at (local) players like Nick Fenton-Wells and Don Armand for this weekend. Rohan Kitshoff is out with a shoulder injury in the Vodacom Cup game this weekend so we we will have to see.

"It is tough, we have got to make sure we field a strong side this coming weekend and cover all of the positions. We are playing against a top quality Waratahs side with a big pack and a side with a good set-piece so, we have got some work to do."

Fenton-Wells scored a try for the WP in Saturday's Vodacom Cup semifinal and has been a stand-out performer.

However, since the WP side have already lost Kitshoff, Coetzee may be reluctant to call up Fenton-Wells or Armand as WP play the final against Griquas in Kimberley next weekend.
